About Patrick Mata:

As a 19-year-old college student in Miami, Málaga native Mata and his partner, Alberto Orte, began to import Spanish wines into the United States with the launch of Olé Imports. It wasn’t long before they were recognized by leading critics like Robert Parker for curating “some of the most creative, innovative and value-priced wines emerging from Spain”. They have since added Portuguese wines to the portfolio with an additional partner, Rui Abecassis, to create Olé & Obrigado.
Patrick’s discerning palate and dedication to bringing quality, artisanal wines from often overlooked places has earned him numerous accolades, including 40 Under 40 Tastemaker by Wine Enthusiast, Personality of the Year by The Wine Advocate, and 35 Under 35 Tastemaker by Food & Wine. But what really sets Mata apart from the rest is his genuine and infectious passion for sharing his history and culture through wine and food. In addition to being an ambassador of Iberian wine and culture, Mata is very active in several philanthropic efforts and has made giving back a core part of Ole & Obrigado’s mission through initiatives like Liquid

Geography rosé, which donates 100% of profits to partner charities. His ultimate mission is to give talented but under-appreciated winemakers a voice, connect them to an audience eager to engage through wine and food, and give back to those in need along the way.
